On this episode, we take on a very important topic, digging ourselves out of burnout. Both Jon and I have suffered through the ills of burnout. What we’ve found is that people misunderstand the concept. They think it’s solely due to too much work. That if we just take some time off, or maybe meditate, we’ll be okay. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
In this episode, we take a deep dive into what burnout is and how to get out it:
- When you are completely fried, even the simple things are difficult to do. That’s why it’s important to take on the smallest possible step.
- We have this concept that if we feel apathetic, then it’s entirely our fault that we don’t have the willpower or drive to do something. That’s wrong. It’s just like being in the marathon when you bonk. You might have all the drive, but there’s nothing you can do.
- From overtraining to depression to burnout, they have similar underlying biological reasons for them.
- “What often happens is we dig out of the burnout hole, then walk 5 feet over and start digging a new hole. Pushers need to realize it’s not the job, it’s how you approach it.”
- Our Environment shapes us. Our environment invites action. A look at how we rig our environment to help, not hurt us. (12min in)
- What’s the center of our houses? The TV. We position our entire room around it. When we get home, it’s no wonder we plop down on the couch and binge on TV. It’s inviting us to do so.
- Is it important or interesting? Prioritizing your time and energy.
