What are Resistance Bands?

What are Resistance Bands?

Resistance bands or exercise bands are stretchable straps made from rubber or latex used for resistance training. They come in various colors, representing different levels of resistance.

The thicker the band, the more challenging it is to use. Resistance bands also come in different lengths; some have handles attached, while others don’t.

The primary purpose of resistance bands is to provide an external force opposing muscle contraction during squats or bicep curls. This added tension creates a greater challenge during movement and increases muscle activation.

Benefits of Using Resistance Bands for Home Workouts

The benefits of using resistance bands include their affordability compared to other forms of exercise equipment, such as free weights or machines. Additionally, they are lightweight and compact, making them easy to store away when not in use. Resistance band exercises promote joint stability and injury prevention by targeting smaller stabilizer muscles that may otherwise be neglected with traditional weightlifting exercises.

Moreover, they can provide a full-body workout targeting multiple muscle groups simultaneously. Incorporating resistance band exercises into your home workouts is an excellent way to increase overall strength while preventing injuries through improved joint stability, all while remaining budget-friendly and space-efficient.

Love. I absolutely love my bands it's very sturdy they are flexible I love the colors and perfect for the price.
Great quality. The media could not be loaded.  I was a little worried that these would be very cheap considering the price. And I was even more worried when I saw how small they were. But these are amazing! They look exactly like the pictures, and are great quality. They come with a small bag but I had a hard time getting them back in there. And the only slight issue is the words are fading but you can feel what level they are so its not a huge deal
Nice. For the price I got them at I was skeptical, but after using them these held up extremely well!! The material felt strong and the colors were pretty. The only reason I give it a 4 is because the carrying bag ripped 🙁 Still very worth the price
Great product, good oride. I like that each band was individually marked. The product came with instructions and a pouch to place the bands into. I’m enjoying working out with them. Plus I can take them with me on vacation or when I travel.
Quality bands and pretty too. Quality material! Perfect for beginner to athlete with 5 resistance choices. Performed well for me!
Material is OK. The carrying bag is a nice touch. They were very inexpensive.Resistance is great, the only reason I’m not a huge fan is the way they don’t stay straight or formed. They tend to try to roll up
Busy mom. I love this product. It does not have any rubber smell. The color is vibrant. Little instructions needed. As described the light pink is the stretchiest and get stiffer. Definitely worth the money. Adds allot of resistance to my workout.
Durable so far. I recently added resistance loops to my workout routine, and they’ve been a game-changer. They are durable, lightweight, and easy to take on the go. The loops stay in place during workouts without rolling or snapping. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced fitness enthusiast, these resistance loops offer an effective way to enhance your exercises and achieve better results. Highly recommend!
Love the different colours for the different resistance and that its labelled clearly and it comes with a little bag to store in.

My favorite equipment. These have quickly become my favorite equipment. They help me to exercise more difficult areas of my body such as my hips and outer legs. These areas are usually harder to take care of with more traditional methods. The little workout suggestions sheet is very useful and I do most of them with the addition of doing clamshells.I've been using the medium at least 3x a week and can already feel my balance improving and my leg posture improving (I have knock knees). It's easier to correct myself when I begin to lose my balance! I also use them to do neck strengthing routines. I'm looking forward to upgrading my routine to the heavy resistance soon!I'm thinking about buying the 15"x4" version too but I specifically bought the 2"x12" version because it was shorter. If I end up getting them, I will update my review to compare my use and observations between the two.
Great way to lose inches. I like the ease of using them in my own home, whenever, wherever I want. They are great quality.
Ok but not great. These band should be an inch or so smaller so as to not allow for a wide range of motion. They also slide and roll more than other bands and seem to have stretched out pretty quickly.
Durable and Lightweight. I have to use these for weekly physical therapy, and they've worked wonderfully!
OK product. These bands are okay, not great for resistance, and they have a very strong smell. They have held up okay, if you are a beginner I would say these would be great for you.
Break pretty easy. They last for a few workouts, but do break and especially if you are putting a lot of pressure on them.
Great product. I am a ski instructor and bought these to prepare for the ski season. They are great for exercising.
Good but dusty. Very good exercise band, only problem is the dust/ chalk is on them when I took them out of the bag. I’m not sure if the chalky substance has a purpose but it gets all over my clothes whenever I use these.
Exactly what I needed according to my physiologist.
Muy bien todo
These are great, good quality, butI wish they were more resistant. Or made with a thicker material.Even the high resistant one is quite easily stretchable.Depending on your level of training, these may or .ay not suit your needs.
Good quality resistance bands that are light and portable for using anywhere. Helpful instruction sheet with images for elderly guidance and ideas for using at the office or on-the-go.
Great quality bands

50 lb. Resistance band. This is a strong 50 lb band. Better than my last one.
Terrific for exercising my shoulder muscles. Update after 9 years: The first set hanging on the wall for all this time crumbled. I bought another set of 50lb. Reading the label it said, don't align these with your body and don't stretch them double their resting length. I was doing both. So I bought a pair of 80lbs. These seem perfect. Enough stretch for arm movements. So the critical factor is not overstretching the tubes (If the eye bolt came out of the wall it could kill you.) I'm 5'8" older -- but here's some good info. When I first bought the 50lbs in 2014, I was really fit, a strong kayak paddler. Last couple of years...I've been sitting around. The tubes are so versatile that I'm probably a few inches from where I once stood and I'm still getting a good muscle work out even though I'm much weaker. I'm going sailing for a few months -these will be my gym.Original review (2014): Terrific for exercising my shoulder muscles. (2023 a new set, still terrific)I was concerned that 50 pounds might be too much. I've got two of these and one 40 pound. The difference is 1. How far back you stand and pull determines the force. 2. A stronger Tube at the same force allows me to use a shorter range. I don't think I'm working these at 50 pounds I think I'm getting more of what I want in a shorter but more useful movement. (Shoulder stabilization and muscle balancing. I'm a kayaker).I leave these hanging on the wall hook. They're durable. (but put a date on them and replace them after a couple of years.) I've used the wide latex type bands, but they dry out and break down after a couple of months. (inside these FoFit is also latex tubing - much better protected, but it will get brittle over time.) Hope this helps.
Excellent resistance strength training 💪💪💪. I've been using resistance tubes for strength training for the past few years. These tubes are an excellent alternative to free weights. I have 20, 30, 50, 70, and 100lb tubes, and I have discovered several techniques for stretching and strengthening that have improved my flexibility and performance with golf and baseball...🏌️⚾👍✌️💪
Best price for performance. I like these bands A LOT. They are a very good value for the price. You can buy Bodylastics and pay 2x for each band. Or you can buy cheaper ones made with less quality materials. But these bands from GoFit are the perfect balance of price and quality. Just realize that unlike metal weights, NO band will not last forever and you will have to replace them at some point. Also the people saying they are not the correct weight are missing the point. The number is not the weight of the band. It is the maximum pressure you should pull the band with. Take the 20lb band. You should only pull it until you reach 20lb of resistance. The listed weight is for a single band anchored at the center and pulled by BOTH ends to a length of about 6 feet. sure I could pull the band 10 feet and it will get way harder, but it will damage the band. Don't do that! Just work out with whatever band gives you failure in 10-15 reps.
Works like a charm. Price is good. Easy to use.
High quality bands. These are very nice bands. They are well constructed and reasonably priced.
Nice solid band. Well made and solid. I’ve used 4 times a week for many months and have been very happy with it. Good resistance and I’d holding up great.
does the job. great addition to my home gym
Excellent the one was looking for long time
Excelente producto, útil para el gym casero. Resiste muy bien el trabajo intenso, ojalá dure un poco más tiempo. Gracias
very good. Good resistance and they seem to be durable
Pul load is accurate ( 70 lbs)Last about 4 years with normal usemore convenient than a weight bench
Feels very cheap compared to my regular ones. No one sells individual replacement ones so I decided to try this. Bought it to replace a broken one that was also rated at 20 lbs. This one is closer to 5 lbs. Quite useless for me.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Resistance Bands for Home Workouts

Factors to Consider When Choosing Resistance Bands for Home Workouts

Resistance Level: More Isn’t Always Better

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing resistance bands is the level of resistance they offer. Bands come in different resistance levels, ranging from extra light to ultra-heavy.

Beginners should start with lighter bands and gradually work up as their strength improves. However, it’s important to note that more resistance isn’t always better.

Using a band that’s too heavy can lead to poor form and increase your risk of injury. Choosing a band that offers enough resistance for your workout goals is also essential.

Durability and Quality: Make Sure You Invest in Good Quality Bands

Durability and quality are crucial factors when choosing resistance bands for home workouts. Low-quality bands can break easily, rendering them useless after a few uses.

Investing in durable and high-quality bands will ensure they last longer, saving you money in the long run. Look for bands made from durable materials such as natural latex or high-grade silicon.

Comfort and Grip: Don’t Sacrifice Comfort for Resistance

Comfort and grip are also important considerations when choosing resistance bands. Some bands may cause discomfort or chafing during use, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies.

Look for bands with cushioned handles or softer materials such as fabric instead of latex if comfort is a concern. Additionally, ensure the grips on the handles are comfortable and provide a secure hold during use.

Price: Consider Your Budget, but Remember You Get What You Pay For

Price is always important when purchasing any fitness equipment, including resistance bands. However, it’s essential not to sacrifice quality for affordability, as low-priced options may not provide adequate resistance levels or durability for effective workouts.

Investing in high-quality bands may cost more upfront, but it will save you money in the long run by preventing the need for frequent replacements. Additionally, compare prices from different brands to ensure you get the best value for your money.

Tips on How to Use Resistance Bands Effectively in Home Workouts

Tips on How to Use Resistance Bands Effectively in Home Workouts

Warming Up Before Using the Bands

Before starting any workout with resistance bands, it is essential to warm up your body properly. This will help prevent injury and ensure your muscles are ready for the exercises. A good warm-up should last between 5-10 minutes and include a combination of dynamic stretching and light cardio.

Dynamic stretching involves moving your body through a range of motion without holding one position for too long. Examples of dynamic stretches include leg swings, arm circles, and lunges with a twist.

As for light cardio, jumping jacks or jogging in place can be good options to get your heart rate up. By taking the time to properly warm up before using resistance bands, you can increase blood flow to your muscles and prepare them for the stress of the workout ahead.

Varying the Exercises

One of the great things about resistance bands is their versatility – they can target almost any muscle group in your body. However, it is essential to vary your exercises from time to time to prevent plateaus and keep your workouts interesting. For instance, if you’ve been doing bicep curls with loop bands for a few weeks straight, try switching it up by doing overhead tricep extensions instead.

Or, if you’ve been using tube bands for leg exercises like squats and lunges, consider adding lateral band walks or glute bridges into the mix. By varying your exercises regularly, you will see better results in muscle growth and strength gains and avoid getting bored or burned out on making the same moves over and over again.

Increasing the Intensity Gradually

It’s important not to go too hard or fast when using resistance bands for home workouts. While it can be tempting to try the most challenging exercises right away, doing so can lead to muscle strains or other injuries. Instead, it’s best to start with a lighter resistance band and gradually increase the intensity over time.

This can be done by using bands with higher resistance levels or increasing the number of reps or sets for each exercise. Additionally, paying attention to your body during workouts and listening to any signals of discomfort or pain is essential.

If you feel like you’re pushing yourself too hard, take a break or switch to a lighter band until you feel ready to move on. By following these tips for warming up, varying your exercises, and increasing the intensity gradually – you’ll be able to get the most out of your resistance band workouts while minimizing the risk of injury.
