I Love Trace Minerals Research Products, But Man, This Stuff Is Rough. Trace Minerals Research make some excellent products. I've been using their Concentrace formula for years & love it.So when I was looking for a liquid Magnesium supplement, I headed right over to TMR as I was sure I would find a solid product. That product is Mega-Mag.The price is pretty good. For 3x 4 ounce bottles the cost was roughly $30.50 with Prime. So right around $10.17 per bottle.There is a big bulb style dropper in each bottle that is marked with a dosage scale. Although it can be hard to read once you draw fluid into the dropper.This way you can dial in just the amount you would like.The typical dosage per day is 4 droppers (400MG). However, you may want to work up to that for 2 reasons:1) If you've never taken magnesium before, then you may get some stomach cramping.So start with .5 (half) of a dropper at first, then work your way up. Don't be the cool kid & jump all the way into 4 (or more) droppers full at once. You will not be a happy human.2) And this is a BIG reason...the taste.Now I've taken some gnarly tasting supplements over the years (TwinLabs Liquid Protein back in the 80's comes to mind). But, I can normally get past anything that tastes bad & eat right through it.But Mega-Mag is not messing around. This stuff is rough!I don't drink soda or juice, so I just mix with water. And I want to get it over with. So I put 4 droppers in a small juice glass of water & shoot it down. But even then it comes back to bite you with a vengeance!So, just be prepared. When you read other reviews about the taste, they are not being tiny babies with loaded diapers. They mean it!However, I'm just lazy & want to get it over with.So. if you mix it into a big glass of water or juice, then it will dilute enough to make it tolerable. Just play around with the dosage vs liquid that works best for you.Other than those 2 caveats, I love this stuff. Love this product. I use this topically and it is wonderful! You can feel it hit your bloodstream and relax tense muscles. Very nice but I would not personally take magnesium orally.
Very hard to swallow but worth it. This product is very good. I can tell instantly that I've taken it because my leg and feet cramps stop in about 20 minutes. OMG it is like drinking fiery liquid salt. So have a chaser to get that horrid taste out of your mouth. Again... extremely worth it
BEWARE. I have been using this product for a few years, but this week I received shipment from Amazon that makes me Not want to do business with Trace Minerals or Amazon! I paid good money for 3 - 4 oz. glass bottles of Mega Mag. The package was well packed, the bottles wrapped in bubble wrap, but the whole thing felt sticky & wet! The bottles were ok, even had the plastic seal over the dropper caps. It was the caps were NOT screwed on good on 2 of the bottles! So, now 2 of 3 bottles are no longer sterile and can't be used! I contacted Amazon to let them know, but No Return, No Refund, No Replacement!!! Apparently Trace Minerals will not Refund, Return, or Replace either! Fine, I will go else where and buy a different brand from a reputable shipper.

Took only two days to arrive. I decided to try Mega-Mag because my usual magnesium capsules were not available. Most of the reviews of this product was very good, I had never taken magnesium in this form before so I ordered two bottles, one for my husband and the other for myself. My husband and I started by taking 2 dropper fulls twice a day, morning and evening. There was hardly any noticeable difference. The next day we decided to increase the dose by taking 1 dropper in the afternoon. We noticed quite a difference that day, the tension headaches I had been having stopped, my husband's restless legs stopped and we both felt very calm. We began sleeping deeply and dreaming a lot. It seems all the years we've been taking magnesium in capsules, they weren't being absorbed as good as in this form. I am very glad my usual magnesium supplements were not available because if they had been, I probably would have continue taking them and not have tried Mega Mag. I've read that some people found it difficult to take Mega Mag because of the taste but we had no problems, we took ours in coconut water which only had a slight salty taste. We also made sure that we drank more than enough water to keep our body hydrated in order for magnesium to work effectively.We were so happy with this product that we bought two more bottles and would gladly recommend anyone trying Mega Mag.Update:Always look forward to taking MegaMag, best form of magnesium to take.

44.1 to 101.5!! works. Did an Everlywell test in mid July and my D was at 44.1. Which may be fine for some people and within "normal" but the magic number to help beat Covid is 75. AND with autoimmunes, doctors say your D levels should be as close to 100 as you can get without going over.Backhistory ... I live in East Texas ... spend a ton of time in the sun, because we have 24 acres and a farm/ranch. Easier to take than a solid supplement. I was looking for ways to increase my magnesium intake and when taking a solid supplement I did not notice a difference. So if you're looking for a better way to consume magnesium, look no further! This is a game-changer for me. I suffered from really tight calves and feet, and no matter how many tablets of magnesium I took I never saw a difference. I switched to this liquid magnesium and love it, and it really has helped my muscle cramps from working out and just getting stiff with a desk job! It has a very medal taste to it so I add it into some sort of drink to help with the taste.

Get pass the taste….it works perfectly. Very strong taste. The very strong taste is almost unbearable. It is like drinking epsom salts. However, I do not mind the taste if I know for sure that the product is effective. I was taking this Liquid Magnesium in the stated dosage, in water, for a couple weeks. However, since I developed a sore in my mouth, I stopped and started using the Liposomal Magnesium which is more tolerant to the taste buds.I am not sure that it is effective. I took it because of health issues; gallstone, cysts in the ovaries and fibroids. I will have to update eventually once life permits, whenever I resume drinking the Liquid Magnesium. I am hoping that it can help shrink my health conditions.

It probably works for most. I tried this Magnesium on the advice of a friend to hopefully get my energy level up. I'm almost 70 yrs old.I tried this several days but my stomach couldn't tolerate it. It may have something to do with the medications I take as well. I'm NOT faulting the product. It just didn't work for me. I would've like to given 5 stars but I couldn't because of my experience. That is a fact that I once thought, only OLD people used ..In my youth took music lessons and loved mobility in my hands ...I researched many items and need for another few pills in my daily IN-TAKE ... then ordered, and took pills .. about a week later .. realized my thumbs and the sides of my little fingers on both hands, were beginning to be more nimble and a bit less painful ..I now do not have as much pain when moving my thumbs .. in fact, they are no longer grinding bone on bonewhen I was holding the thumb's first joint ... with the fingers on the other hand ..holding on each side of the when moving .. could feel a POP when the thumb joint moved ... know that may be a little confusing as a review .. but I know I am NOT the only person .. more near 80 than 70 years old .. begging doctors for relief .. and getting drugs ....... no thanks!!!! ..so if your hands, knees, and ankles are sore and popping ... this is something you might consider buying and trying.. I love Solgar Products, and these are no exception. Pros:1. Solar products are pretty safe for those with food allergies or special diets. These contain: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Vegetable Cellulose, Silica, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Vegetable Glycerin, Carnauba Wax. Free of - Gluten, Wheat, Yeast, Sugar, Artificial Flavors, Artificial Sweeteners, Artificial Colors(Graphic showing dietary information is from their website)2. The Amber tinted, glass bottle helps keep your vitamins in good shape.3. Easy to swallow. I find these much easier to swallow than smaller pills that I have to take.4. Chill pill 😎. I call this my chill pill. It worked for me pretty quickly but took a few days before I noticed a big change. Eases my anxiety and Helps keep me calm during stress. Also great to help moodiness associated with PMS. I will never go without this.I learned that I can back off on the dosing once it builds up in my system. So if I forget a day (or several) I still experience the effects of the magnesium. Now, if I stop taking for more than a week, I can start feel that I need to make sure I'm taking it.In the beginning, I took more per day but now I am just taking one nightly before bed. Sometimes will purposeful skip a night or two so I don't have to buy as frequently.While it may help me with sleep, I can't say I sleep better or worse since taking it. MY purpose for taking it is simply because it makes me a happier person.Personally, I am going to experiment with a different type of magnesium for sleep. If you are someone who has trouble sleeping because of anxiety or just has trouble relaxing, it may help. But this does not help relax me to feel tired and actually fall asleep.The pill is easy for me to swallow. It's probably important for me to say that I usually don't have trouble with taking supplements so I'm not picky. It does go down smoothly because of the capsule it is in.I recommend for people who are looking for something to help calm their mind from as much worry and help keep calm during normal everyday stresses.

Works like magnesium, not certain on brain benefits. I like the brand. I take magnesium near-daily and have for some time due to my diet. Mostly it's glycinate, though sometimes I'll take some citrate. This is my first experiment with l-threonate.Before I get into this, I am not taking this as directed. I take 2 capsules during the day and usually take a different type of magnesium toward evening. I have about 40 capsules left, so I've taken a bit more than half the bottle so far.Supposedly magnesium l-threonate may give you brain benefits over other types of magnesium. If it does, I'm not sure. It seems to have the same, general magnesium benefits for relaxation, sleep, muscles and nerves, but I don't notice any clear indication that my brain is working better: I'm thinking clearer, faster or am sharper mentally. This could be happening to a small degree, but other changes I've made could lead to this as well, so the waters are muddy there.I'm going to cycle back to magnesium glycinate after I'm done with this bottle, or maybe open up my magnesium optimizer (also by Jarrow -- magnesium malate, b6, potassium and taurine), then come back to this again. See if there's any noticeable difference in my mental capabilities or focus. If I seem to see an association, I'll update this.I like the brand. I've used their Magnesium Optimizer before and was pleased with that (bought another bottle), their fulvic acid / shilajit -- that seemed to work. I'm a fan. Interesting. So we bought a bottle at our local neighborhood nutrition shop after a discussion with the owner, a couple I have come to trust during our many battles with the medical establishment.Jarrow Formulas of magnesium L-threonate as Magmind is a very cost-effective source. To further economize we are still taking our regular magnesium supplement 3 times a day (750 mg) then taking this form of magnesium as part of our bed time routine (replacing the 4th magnesium of the day). I am genuinely impressed. Our sleep has improved yet another notch, which is saying something since the 5 years of magnesium supplementation meant we already had really good sleep quality. What I have noticed is that after multiple head trauma injuries (including a serious concussion earlier this year) my previously very high level of spatial relations was slipping. Excellent Quality Magnesium Combination Supplement From Nordic Naturals. Nordic Naturals are well known for premium quality Omega-3 supplements but they also make many other supplements also of premium quality. These are no exception. Also a very smart choice in the types of magnesium included. I had done a great amount of research, online medical journal research as well. I was looking for beneficial supplements to help with my currently undiagnosed set of symptoms that seem to be baffling doctors. I needed something to help with muscle twitching and pains, digestive issues and mood. Magnesium can help with all of these, if you take the right types in enough quantity. Imagine my delight when I find out that my favorite brand for Omega-3 also makes a magnesium complex that has the 3 best types for my symptoms! Yes they are a little pricey, but for the quality I think it’s actually a very fair price. You can’t put a price on results either. I’ve had solid results on par with what I would expect from prescription meds. So far they have made noticeable differences and most dramatically in digestive health. I am not a placebo person, in fact I generally overly scrutinize medications. These, in my experience really do help. Obviously your mileage will vary but if you live with symptoms or issues that might benefit from these magnesium types I strongly recommend giving them a shot. Check with your doctor first if you are on other meds, as supplements can interact with traditional meds.

Not the easiest tablet to swallow. Magnesium lysinate glycinate chelate is double bonded to both lysine and glycine, which the body easily recognizes and absorbs. Because it is 100% chelated, it's one of the most absorbable forms of magnesium with a 90% absorbability rate. 90% is excellent as in most other forms the absorption rate is much lower. I take this version to aid with joint and muscle pain management and sleep at night. Magnesium helps nerves and muscles function and is a cofactor for a multitude of body functions. It is also by far one of the most important minerals in our bodies. Several ailments, including vitamin deficiencies, can be traced to the lack of magnesium if properly diagnosed as your body fails to absorb them due to the lack of enough Magnesium. Something so small can be overlooked during blood work and diagnosing your problems. If you are deemed Magnesium deficient, the quickest way to increase your levels is to take an Epsom Salt bath. Great for anxiety with no laxative effect. I’ve been jumping through hoops to get my protracted withdrawals under control and I’ve tried just about all Magnesium’s and I can say, the chelated Glycinate is the “Natural Xanax” one for anxiety, sleep, mood, and “mental health”. Heart palpitations. I have had heart palpitation for a number of years. Recently, I had a number of tests done for my heart including nuclear stress test, Holter monitor, EKG, echocardiogram and even went to ER thinking I had a heart attack. All came back negative. Had a consultation with a cardiologist and asked him if there's any vitamin supplements I could be taking for the palpitation and he mentioned magnesium oxide and vitamin k2. On the same day that I started to take magnesium oxide, my heart palpitation decreased significantly. I'm not sure why doctors in my previous visits never told me about magnesium? There are a number of different types of magnesium and read that magnesium taurate is the best for heart palpitations. But based on my experience, magnesium oxide works quite well. All the best.
I take magnesium to avoid migraines. I have been taking magnesium for years to deter migraines. I was taking another brand that was a large tablet and difficult to swallow. When I noted that the quality of that product had become less consistent I found these which are far superior. Since I take four a day being able to swallow them easily is a big yhing.
This works wonderful for constipation. I was only going to the bathroom maybe once or twice a week prior to taking this. Once I started taking this, I know go to the bathroom everyday. I feel so much better. Once in awhile If Im constipated I will up the pills from one pill to two pills a day. I usually wake up in the morning have tea with some mct oil, take my magnesium and within an hour I have a bowel movement. I am so relieved. Before I was having to take ballerina tea (sena leaf tea) at least twice a month to go, which always helped me go but it was very painful and drastic. The magnesium is a much better and pain free way to go.

How we rate magnesium supplements?

We rated magnesium supplements by their cost per serving (mg) and whether they were available in a soluble or insoluble form. Magnesium citrate was better than magnesium oxide because it costs less per mg but has similar effects.

Magnesium salts like magnesium citrate and magnesium glycinate rely on your stomach acids to break down their molecules and release the magnesium ions for easier digestion and faster absorption. However, they’re less effective at reducing gastric acid levels than insoluble magnesium supplements.

Metal oxides absorb stomach acids, which means they could potentially be harmful if eaten by someone who has low levels of gastric juice (stomach acid).

We then add any remaining ingredients back into our bowl (minus the salt) until everything has been mixed. Magnesium comes in several forms, including tablets, powders, chews, and liquids. Combining these different types makes for an even easier way to consume magnesium than taking just one type.

Because they contain too much sugar, Natural Vitality Calm gummies are examples of several different magnesium supplements that didn’t make the top 10 list because of their excessive sugar levels.

Recommended dosage of magnesium supplements

Thus far, research is limited. Most studies use around 300 to 500 mg of magnesium per day. The tae kwon do study discussed earlier used a dose of 10 mg of magnesium per kilogram of body mass so that a 150-pound male would take a dose of 680 mg of magnesium per day.

These by-weight formulas help compensate for the fact that more prominent people need a larger dose of medication to get the same effect as a smaller person. Recall that the absorption of magnesium is related to the amount you take. If you tried to take 400 mg of magnesium all at once, your body would not absorb it as well as if you’d split that dose into four or five daily portions (Of course, this doesn’t stop some studies from taking this exact approach the insomnia study on elderly patients conducted in Iran used a straight 500 mg bolus before bed. In practice, this means that less than the total dosage was absorbed.
